Click one of the images below for a larger picture Information about the White Crested Description/About the White Crested: White Crested cavies have a crest on their forehead. Their coat is not allowed to have any coloring that includes white - their crest is to be the only part that is white (agouti and silver solids are acceptable, though). The most common colors are black and red. Above you can see what a great crest looks like. It is full with no parts of the crest missing. The center is not too large and the crest is a good size. There can be a color gap in the crest of up to 1/8 the circumference, any more lacking and the cavy is not showable. There is no White Crested Satin breed recognized. Available Varieties Because this breed of cavy is not allowed to have white patches in any area except the crest, only the following varieties are recognized:
Grooming: Relatively easy, very similar to an American but for the crest. Use a toothbrush to ensure the crest radiates well. Availability: Not one of the more popular breeds, not many people breed them because it can be hard to get that perfect crest. Breeding: oftentimes when breeding white crested cavies it is the mis-marked cavies that produce the best offspring. While White Cresteds with snippets of white or partial crests cannot not be shown they are still valuable in the breeding pen. That is most likely what you will start out with anyway, perfect show White Cresteds are hard to find. Sometimes White Cresteds are bred to Americans to get better type.
